Print output counters:
iP7270 print out counter: 12,000+ pages (6 months)

G1000 print out counter: 200+ pages (3 days)

This is one of my battle-hardened iP7270

Results:

The clear winner here, is of course, the G1000 with genuine inks.

Let's add something interesting:

Canon Selphy CP710

And yes, it's quite interesting. The colors are like a combination of the 2 inkjet printouts. It's like if these two printouts mated, the CP710 printout would be its offspring. :-D
(And in case you are wondering, that's an Epson ME-10 underneath the CP710. CISS converted with sublimation inks.)

Now let's do something more interesting: Water test

That's just ordinary tap water. As of this posting these print-outs are pushing 2 hours submerged and no smudging or fading has occurred in any of them, so far.

Well, tinubig na lang din, arawin na natin. :D
Direct Sunlight Exposure test

As of this posting, it's only been 30 minutes since I put these pictures under the sun.

I will post later the results of these stress tests when I am satisfied with the duration.

To Conclude:

For the G1000, I cannot draw a clear conclusion yet as I have only printed 200 pages with it. If this is intended for mass printing for groups like us in the desktop publishing business, then the true test would be its durability and its print quality when it reaches the 5,000 prints mark. And you will be sure to hear it from me.

As for the print outs, we are very satisfied with the results we are getting. It's clear, it's crisp and the colors are vibrant. And when compared to 3rd party inks, genuine Canon inks are, of course, the clear winner.

Printing speed is OK. Although it pales in comparison to iP7270 and iX6770's printing speed.

Durability, that remains to be seen.

Mirror image (Tshirt Transfer) functionality is gone. It's a let down for me and for other people who use this feature. I'd like to request to Canon to either bring this back or give us another way to print mirror-imaged. And I really hope that an upcoming premium models of the G series will include this feature.

Ink cost is still on the high side at P295 per bottle of 75ml when compared to 3rd party inks, which costs half that, in bottles of 100ml. If you will argue about the color of the outputs of 3rd party inks versus genuine, as seen on the comparisons above, I will immediately point you to Photoshop to adjust the colors to match the genuine ink outputs. But then, if you use 3rd party inks, you will void the warranty and you will miss out on head, feeder and roller replacements, cleaning and resetting - all for FREE. Don't fret, though, because Canon will still support products with voided warranties for a small additional fee plus the amount of the part/parts for replacement. How awesome is that!?

Smudging and fading when in contact with water, again, both 3rd party and genuine inks seemed to have passed the test. Though, final results are still pending.
There you have it, ladies and gentlemen, the Canon Pixma G1000.
